What is Healthy Kids, Healthy County Coalition?

Green County Healthy Kids, Healthy County Coalition is a group of
concerned citizens from a variety of organizations, including, but
not  limited to the health department, area clinics, daycares,
schools,  churches, charitable groups, county services,  grocery
stores, athletic organizations, agricultural groups,  as well as
parents and kids. The coalition addresses issues within our
community that affect children’s health with a focus on healthy
eating and physical activity. We understand the challenges
within our community that families have to developing and
maintaining healthy habits and we envision a community where
everyone can live better, longer.

How can I get involved?

Fruit and Vegetable of the Month
Look for our Fruit and Vegetable of the Month promotion
around the community and use it as a guide to introduce
new fruits and vegetables into your home to increase
consumption of fresh, healthy foods. Use the NuBites-
nutrition Tips for Today’s Families, to educate yourself
with simple tips on how easy it can be to eat healthy and be
active.

  •  Be Informed. Know what your children are eating, discuss
the lunch calendar with your child and stay informed about
what they are eating at school. Be a conscientious shopper
and choose fresh over processed. Set a good example by
demonstrating to your kids how to eat healthy by doing it
yourself and make it fun by adding variety. What they see
has more impact than what they hear.

  •  Be Active. Decrease “screen time” and engage the whole
family in activities. Come up with a list of activities that each
family member would like to try and rotate through the list
every day. Active kids are healthy kids, this goes for adults
of all ages as well!

  •  Join the Coalition! For more information about the coalition
please contact the coalition coordinator at the Green County
Health Department at 328-9390.
